![]() Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes all stood out as the Sonic games I knew and loved the best. Trust me, I was a megafan of the Blue Blur from elementary school throughout my first year of junior high. Sadly, Sonic never did age gracefully as the lot of you know. The reruns of Sonic SatAM and the related comic book series was like icing on the cake with the unique lore, settings and colorful characters of Mobius. Seeing Sonic Adventures cutscenes convey the story and then allowing me to engage in the awe-inspiring action of blazing through creative levels, finding cool collectibles, watching crazy set pieces take place throughout a stage to flip the entire level on its head, and then fight epic bosses to boot was really what defined my childhood. 6 year old me was absolutely blown away with the concept that you can jump into the shoes of a character and walk through their world thanks to just a console and a controller. I grew up right when 3D games were really starting to hit their marks and the first game I’ve ever played was Sonic Adventure on my older sisters new Gamecube. I’m willing to go on grand, meaningful journeys like in Xenoblade Chronicles as much as I am eager to thoughtlessly hunt Zinogre to extinction for the sake of crafting a badass greatsword in Monster Hunter.Īnd yet despite me holding these games in high regard and willing marathon them all for good ole’ times sake, not one of them has given me the feeling that Freedom Planet has given to me recently: Nostalgia. It’s very apparent to me that I only have favorite games, not favorite genres. And I’ve felt undeniable glee in murdering the hundreds of denizens of Hell in Doom. I’ve questioned my own sense of self and belief-system in no small part thanks to SOMA. I’ve witnessed the epic trilogies unfold in Mass Effect and Dark Souls since their humble beginnings back in 20 respectively. I’ve stuck with this hobby, this passion, of mine for the better part of 15 years and have seen many incredible shifts in design and leaps in technology that have made gaming evolve into a medium where any story can be told, and any feat can be accomplished. I’ve been playing video games since I was 6 and have experienced dozens if not hundreds of incredible titles. This is gonna be a long one, so bear with me. r/CoOpGaming - A community for co-op gaming ![]() r/xboxone - Xbox-specific subreddit for general Xbox news and discussion r/playstation, /r/PS4 & /r/PS5 - PlayStation-specific subreddits for general PlayStation news and discussion ![]() r/pcgaming - PC gaming-specific subreddit for general PC gaming news, discussion and gaming tech support r/nintendo - Nintendo-specific subreddit for general Nintendo news and discussion r/shouldibuythisgame - Find out what's worth getting. r/gamingsuggestions - Go here to help you find your next game to play r/gaming4gamers - Discussion, bar the Hivemind
